6. Check-in & Baggage Allowance
JAL domestic checked baggage allowances are based on weight rather than piece count. First Class passengers receive up to 45 kg, while Class J and Economy Class passengers are allowed 20 kg. Oneworld Sapphire members receive an additional 15 kg, and Oneworld Emerald members receive an additional 20 kg. Note that no single bag can exceed 32 kg. For full checked baggage allowances, see JAL’s guidelines here and checked baggage fees, refer to here.
However, there is a minor policy quirk. Most airlines apply baggage rules based on the operating segment regardless of ticketing. However, since my domestic segment was ticketed through American Airlines, JAL applied my international baggage allowance instead. Passengers booking JAL domestic flights via partner international carriers should confirm which allowance applies.

ποΈ Nov 2025 Flight | πΊ Economy Comfort | βοΈ A350-900
7/10 (πππππ) Thanks to the bulkhead Comfort seats, lounge access, and good in-flight entertainment, it was a quite comfortable flight for long-haul economy. However, the small meal portions, limited beverages, and single complimentary alcohol service were a pity, making this a flight that is much more satisfying if you hold Oneworld elite status.
ποΈ Mar 2025 Stay | π Seoul, South Korea | ποΈ Courtyard Suite
8/10 (πππππ) While the location at the far west of Seoul might be polarizing, the accessibility to Magongnaru Station and Seoul Botanic Park, the spacious Courtyard Suite upgrade, and free breakfast and coffee passes made this Courtyard highly satisfying, especially for Marriott Elite members. The fundamentals of the hotel itself were also very solid.
ποΈ Nov 2025 Flight | πΊ Economy | βοΈ A320-200
6/10 (πππππ) It was a direct flight but a unique one with a stopover in Rovaniemi. The service was simple, just water and blueberry juice, but thanks to the row 1 bulkhead seats and a crew that carefully prioritized safety, it was an acceptable short-haul European flight with no major inconveniences.
ποΈ Jan 2026 Flight | πΊ Delta Main Basic | βοΈ A220-100
7/10 (πππππ) With wide seats, a personal monitor, free Wi-Fi, and two beverage services, it was a quite satisfying economy flight for a U.S. domestic route. The seat selection restriction on the Basic fare was a bummer, but I could feel why Delta is considered a premium airline.
