Darakhyu is a capsule hotel brand operated by SK Networks, well-known for the Walkerhill Hotel. It has branches at Incheon International Airport Terminal 1 and Terminal 2, as well as the Yeosu Expo International Pavilion. Despite being labeled a capsule hotel, it diverges from the traditional Japanese pod-style layout. Instead, it features compact, individual rooms, offering a significantly higher level of privacy than conventional capsule hotels.

Darakhyu at Incheon International Airport Terminal 1 offers a total of four room types. They are primarily divided by occupancy: Single rooms for solo travelers and Double rooms accommodating up to two adults. These are further categorized by whether they include a private shower. None of the rooms have private toilets, so all guests must use the communal restrooms. Guests in rooms without showers use the communal shower facilities.

As a capsule hotel, Darakhyu operates with slightly different policies than standard hotels. Stays are categorized into ‘Day Use’ for hourly daytime stays and ‘Overnight’ for stays passing through the night. Day Use is available between 8:00 AM and 8:00 PM, with a minimum requirement of 3 hours. Extensions are available in 1-hour increments. When booking online in advance, you can add up to 3 extra hours for a maximum 6-hour reservation. Stays exceeding 6 hours require on-the-day confirmation at the front desk. Rates for a 3-hour block are 38,000 KRW (approx. $27 USD) for a Single + Shower and 48,000 KRW (approx. $35 USD) for a Double + Shower, with an additional charge of 10,000 KRW (approx. $7 USD) per hour.

The Overnight option is designed for nighttime stays, similar to a standard hotel. Although the standard duration is advertised as 12 hours from 8:00 PM to 8:00 AM the next day, it’s actually structured around your specific check-in time. For instance, checking in at 9:00 PM allows you to stay until 9:00 AM, and checking in at midnight extends your stay until noon. However, if your intended stay overlaps with the 8:00 PM to 8:00 AM window—even if you primarily want to use it during the day—you must book an Overnight stay instead of Day Use. For example, if you arrive at 4:00 AM and want to rest for 6 hours starting at 6:00 AM, Day Use is not an option; you must book Overnight. Any extension beyond the 12-hour limit is subject to availability at the check-in desk on the day of your stay. Overnight rates are 69,000 KRW (approx. $50 USD) for a Single, 79,000 KRW (approx. $57 USD) for a Single + Shower, 85,000 KRW (approx. $61 USD) for a Double, and 94,000 KRW (approx. $68 USD) for a Double + Shower.

To get some rest after my early morning arrival, which I reviewed in my previous post, I booked a stay at Darakhyu in Incheon International Airport Terminal 1. I reserved a Double + Shower room for a total of 5 hours, starting from 8:00 AM (the earliest Day Use slot) until 1:00 PM. The base rate for 3 hours was 48,000 KRW (approx. $35 USD), plus 20,000 KRW (approx. $14 USD) for the extra 2 hours (10,000 KRW per hour), bringing the total to 68,000 KRW (approx. $50 USD).

Darakhyu at Incheon International Airport Terminal 1 is located on the 1st floor (ground level) of the Transportation Center. Therefore, transit passengers must clear immigration and officially enter Korea to use it. Passengers transiting without clearing customs and immigration should book the transit hotel located airside.

The Transportation Center at Terminal 1 is connected to the main passenger terminal via a passageway. You can access it through the level 2 bridge connecting the departure (level 3) and arrival (level 1) floors, or from the outside on the ground floor. Its biggest advantage is that you can reach the terminal entirely indoors, keeping you sheltered from the weather and seasons, and entirely on foot without needing additional transport. Because of this, it’s highly popular among travelers with early morning departures or those arriving when public transportation has stopped running.

Passengers using Terminal 2 can book the Darakhyu branch located there. It’s situated in the public area on the B1 level of the Transportation Center. However, if you book close to your travel date, your desired terminal branch might be sold out. In such cases, you can consider staying at the other terminal’s branch and transferring later. Just keep in mind that the first free inter-terminal shuttle buses start running around 5:00 AM, so be sure to check your flight time before committing to this option.

Since I flew in with Asiana Airlines, I arrived at Terminal 2. I booked my Day Use stay two days prior. At the time, the Terminal 2 location only allowed bookings for up to 3 hours, so I opted for the Terminal 1 location, which permitted a 5-hour stay. Knowing that Day Use starts at 8:00 AM and my flight (OZ203) landed at 6:00 AM, I figured I’d have plenty of time to transfer between terminals. Indeed, after clearing immigration, collecting my luggage, and taking the free inter-terminal shuttle bus, I arrived at the Terminal 1 Transportation Center by approximately 7:10 AM.

Upon arriving at Darakhyu, I asked if I could wait in the lobby until my 8:00 AM check-in time. They kindly accommodated me, so I sat by the desk to catch up on some work. After about 10 minutes, a staff member approached, confirmed my name, and informed me that my room was already available. Thanks to this, I was able to check in around 7:20 AM, roughly 40 minutes ahead of schedule.

Since Darakhyu operates on an hourly basis, I was informed that checking in early would correspondingly advance my check-out time. I asked about the possibility of extending my stay, and the staff explained that I could either pay upfront or settle the balance for the actual extra time used upon check-out. Anticipating I’d need about one more hour, I opted to settle at check-out and received my key card. I was also instructed to grab two bottles of water from the adjacent refrigerator before heading to my room.

It’s undeniably compact, meaning you can take in the entire room the moment you open the door. Notably, there’s a slight step up from the hallway into the room, so you’ll need to lift your luggage slightly to bring it inside.

Upon entering the room, the bed was positioned on the right. While not exactly spacious, the double-sized bed was adequate for two adults. The wall next to the bed was padded with thin cushion foam, designed to absorb impact and prevent noise from transferring to the adjacent room if you happened to bump into the wall while sleeping. A reading light was installed on the inner side of the bed, while lighting controls, a thermostat, and a built-in Bluetooth speaker were conveniently located at the headboard on the outer side.

To the left of the room was a glass-enclosed shower booth. It featured a basic setup with a single showerhead and a corner shelf for personal toiletries. The showerhead was adjustable in height and angle, and an exhaust fan was installed in the ceiling. While it seemed designed to be fully enclosed, the hinges on my door were slightly misaligned, preventing it from closing tightly. This required some care to avoid splashing water outside while showering.

Opposite the shower booth were a sink and a shelf. As a room for two, it was stocked with two bath towels and two face towels. Beneath the shelf, there was a low stool and two pairs of reusable slippers, with a hairdryer mounted at one end. A 220V outlet, a USB-A charging port, an Ethernet port, and an emergency bell were also conveniently located, making it easy to power and charge basic electronics. On the wall between the shower booth and the sink, two coat hooks and hangers were provided.

As expected from a capsule hotel designed for short stays, the space is tight, but it’s thoughtfully equipped with all the essentials, making it perfectly adequate for a few hours of rest. Above all, the independent room layout sets it apart from typical pod-style capsule hotels, leaving an impression of a much more comfortable and private environment.

Amenities at Darakhyu Incheon International Airport Terminal 1 were quite minimalist. The shower booth contained wall-mounted dispensers for shampoo, conditioner, and body wash, while a large bottle of hand soap was provided at the sink. Other than that, the room offered two pairs of reusable slippers, two sets of towels, a hairdryer, and basic necessities like tissues, a trash can, a fire extinguisher, and an emergency flashlight.

One of Darakhyu’s marketed features is the in-room Harman Kardon speaker. The speaker, built into the headboard, offered impressive sound quality for its size. It packed enough punch that I actually worried about disturbing neighboring rooms if I turned the volume up too high. A quick tip: sometimes pressing the center button for pairing, as instructed on the panel, doesn’t work. If this happens, press the leftmost of the three buttons to power it on first, then press the center button to initiate pairing—it should connect seamlessly.

Darakhyu at Incheon International Airport Terminal 1 is constructed by placing modules on top of a raised platform built over the existing airport floor. While the soundproofing of the individual modules themselves was quite good, I did occasionally notice vibrations traveling through the floorboards. This might be slightly bothersome for light sleepers, but for the majority of guests, it shouldn’t be a significant issue.

Another thing to note: I recommend physically pushing the room door to ensure it’s securely latched after closing it. The door to my room didn’t seal completely on its own weight, requiring a manual check every time I entered or exited. For restrooms, guests use the gender-separated public facilities. If you book a room without a shower, simply grab the towels provided in your room and head to the communal shower rooms.

When traveling, you often find yourself needing an overnight stay near the airport. In these situations, the most appealing option is invariably a hotel accessible without leaving the terminal buildings. While Incheon International Airport has several nearby hotels like Paradise, Grand Hyatt, and Ibis, most require a shuttle bus as they aren’t within easy walking distance. This can make transit cumbersome, especially if you have a lot of luggage.

In this regard, Darakhyu’s location inside the airport gives it a distinct advantage. When it comes to pure accessibility, it easily ranks as the best among hotels near Incheon International Airport. However, its limited number of rooms can make securing a daytime reservation challenging, which is a drawback. Furthermore, given its nature as a capsule hotel, it’s perfect for a quick rest, but you should consider that it might lack the comforts desired for a longer, traditional overnight stay before booking.

Particularly recommended for travelers arriving late at night or departing early in the morning who find the onward journey to their final destination too burdensome.
